Decorating Tip: Make Your Lighting Unique

Knowing the maximum wattage a fixture is able to use is important.  Most newer fixtures will tell you on the the socket the maximum wattage that can be used.  If unsure, always assume a lower wattage.  Decorating Tip : Using a unique bulb style is a simple way to personalize a lighting fixture.  There are multiple bulb styles to choose from that will customize the look and style of a fixture, particularly when the bulbs are exposed.

 Edison Style Bulbs

From small flame tip candelabra-based bulbs to Edison-style medium base bulbs, making a unique selection allows you to add your own personal style to each fixture.  Installing a dimmer control is extremely helpful and will allow you to control the level of light in a room.  A dimmer switch allows for dramatic lighting levels.  Having this control also increases the functional flexibility of a space, allowing you to use the space for multiple activities like homework at the dining room table or a romantic dinner for two.

Decorating Tip : Choosing The Perfect Chandelier

Hinkley Lighting shares some key points on choosing the perfect chandelier with tips from designing pro Jamie Herzlinger.  For more decorating tips and design inspiration visit Lewis Lighting and Home on Pinterest.

There are several key features to look for when selecting your perfect chandelier: design, scale, finish and materials. Once you’ve identified your basic lighting needs and decided where you want to hang the fixture, take time to research various styles and find a chandelier that complements your unique decor. From there, ensure you choose the right size and finish so it complements the overall space. Interesting materials incorporated into the design, from wood to crystal details, can add another layer of stylish sophistication. via Hinkley Lighting
“Lighting is a key element to me in my own home and in all of my projects. I consider the main light fixtures before I even begin to look for the furniture. I consider lighting as important as the flooring, which is where I usually begin the design process!”

Here at Lewis Lighting and Home we would like to start a new series to help introduce you to the available home goods from great brands out there.  Look for the "What's New" tag in the post title to see new introductions and to learn more about the home goods Lewis Lighting and Home has to offer.  Fabulous.

To start off "What's New", our first segment is on: what's new at Hinkley Lighting.  With 90 years experience in fixture manufacturing, Hinkley has become a trend setter in the industry growing from a traditional lighting company into a leader in style.  This past season Hinkley was a driving force in introducing new finishes to the market such as Brushed Bronze and Brushed Carmel (that are contemporary takes on brass) and re-introducing Chrome.  Smart in design, current in style, and eco-forward, here some great pieces from Hinkley.

3 New Chandeliers By Hinkley

Love Hinkley for being the trend setter.  Here are three new looks, and thank you for bringing back brass.  Absolutely love the golden brushed brass finish.  Thank you.

Margeaux’s traditional style is reinforced by an impressive formal presence. This combination stem and chain hung collection features cast transition elements that extend from the circular body to the torchère arms, while the Vintage Brass finish complements this open airy design.

Renata’s striking modern design features an outer sphere-shaped cage created from solid metal that has been flattened and tapered. The chandelier cage encompasses 5 Etched Opal Linen Glass shades while the caged pendant styles surround a unique rounded globe of Etched Opal Linen glass.

Landon is a unique foyer lantern collection with an updated traditional chain hung design infused by cool, retro style. Its oversized rectangular framework enables the focus to be on elegant extended candle sleeves finished to match.

Brass Is Back!

Check out these beautiful brass fixtures.   Brass is making a come back, the classic vintage finish gets a contemporary face lift and these awesome gold hued introductions are a big step in the right direction.

Lovely Luminous Landscape Lighting

Spring has sprung and it is time to turn our focus to the outdoors.  My irises bloomed over a week ago and I have a list of outdoor projects that will surely keep me busy all season.  One of my projects is to install some additional landscape lighting.

Designer Amy Albert has a few pointers to help you choose the right lighting for your landscaping.

“Consider the architecture of your home when you're choosing landscape light fixtures, so the style is appropriate to the period, scale and design of your home. It's often nice to repeat a motif, material, or color in the house to blend the structure with the outdoor fixtures. In most cases, you want the light to highlight a feature in your garden not draw attention to itself. For that reason, fixtures made with natural materials, nature inspired colors, and organic shapes are particularly well suited. When choosing a fixture, consider too how it will look when exposed during the winter months when there is little plant growth.” ~ Amy Elbert
