Bright, White, and Inviting

This inviting interior blanketed with white was designed by Gail Plechaty for a family near the Chicago area.  White is timeless, it is forever.  Decorating Tip: When using a white color scheme - it is all about the details.  With a lack of color, the eye will be drawn to texture and any contrast.  Make it count.  Make the pieces important.  Think of icicles, or branches, in winter snow.  Look for distinctive pieces - uniquely lined furniture and frames (the branches) and crystal (the icicles).  Think about the feel and finish of fabrics for each room.  Texture will be very important to the overall feel of a room and will dictate formality or casual style.

Tailored Traditional Minimalist Interior

The owners of the apartment wanted a restrained, uncluttered, peaceful interior that was adult without being dowdy or predictable.  This interior is highly tailored with refined delicate furniture choices.

Decorating Tip:  Notice the balance of contrasts.  Thin tapered furniture legs are paired with thicker, burled legs, as well as turned and carved wood pieces.  Lighting fixtures with wispy elements are contrasted with a chunky sphere pendant in the foyer.  Minimalist use of wall art pushes focus into the room.  Soft hints of color on the walls give off a tranquil and peaceful atmosphere.  Plush carpet is balanced by the ultra flat wall paint finish.  Edited and restrained design choices are the epitome of traditional minimalist style.

Keep in mind, there are no rules when it comes to design.  It is not a singular choice but the sum of choices  -  the sum here equaled - edited, refined, restrained, and balanced.
