Out Of Box : Industrial Minimalist Architecture and Interior, Chicken Point Cabin

Modern architecture may leave you scratching your head sometimes.  But, the home called Chicken Point Cabin is all about function.  The lakeside home, designed by Olson Kundig Architects, opens itself to the lake, literally.  The home's architecture is minimalist with an industrial aesthetic.  Exposed cinder blocks and architectural elements are the decoration.  However, the show piece of the home is an innovative picture window that pivots to allow the indoor space to become outdoor space.  Check it out.

We have all heard the saying, "Less Is More."  This home puts the old adage to the test.  The Park House, a minimalist house located in Tokyo, Japan, was designed by Tsuyoshi Kobayashi.  With storage below and living space above the Park House is a sleek space with a clever stair case.

Timothy Corrigan Renovates Illinois Cottage

Timothy Corrigan creates a traditional minimalist's dream in an Illinois cottage featured in Architectural Digest.  What does it mean to be a traditional minimalist?  Traditional minimalism - pairing down traditional style to its simplest form.  I appreciate this style because it is the opposite of my personal style which is kitschy clutter.

This Interior Has The Blues

Or should we say, this interior has the Tiffany Blues?  This hip and youthful interior is by architect/designer Guilherme Torres.  The bold Tiffany Blue wall anchors the minimal interior with whimsical and 80's pop references.  The wicker chair reminds me of Beetlejuice.  Rock On.

Tailored Traditional Minimalist Interior

The owners of the apartment wanted a restrained, uncluttered, peaceful interior that was adult without being dowdy or predictable.  This interior is highly tailored with refined delicate furniture choices.

Decorating Tip:  Notice the balance of contrasts.  Thin tapered furniture legs are paired with thicker, burled legs, as well as turned and carved wood pieces.  Lighting fixtures with wispy elements are contrasted with a chunky sphere pendant in the foyer.  Minimalist use of wall art pushes focus into the room.  Soft hints of color on the walls give off a tranquil and peaceful atmosphere.  Plush carpet is balanced by the ultra flat wall paint finish.  Edited and restrained design choices are the epitome of traditional minimalist style.

Keep in mind, there are no rules when it comes to design.  It is not a singular choice but the sum of choices  -  the sum here equaled - edited, refined, restrained, and balanced.
