Artist Of Optical Illusion

Stand just a foot or degree off and you will miss it.  Swiss artist Felice Varini has been creating optical illusions for over thirty years.  Through the process of anamorphosis a puzzle of lines and shapes come to together in geometric perfection creating what seems to look like a super imposed design.  On further inspection, the truth is revealed.  I cannot imagine what is involved in creating one of these installations (a lot of math).  Absolutely mind blowing work Felice.  Keep scrambling our brains.

Coffee Table Books We Love : Tony Duquette

Legendary American artist and designer Tony Duquette (1914–1999) was known for his over-the-top style in interiors, jewelry, costumes, and set design. His clients included Elizabeth Arden, the Duchess of Windsor, and Herb Albert.

Duquette designed sets for MGM musicals and designed Tony Award–winning costumes for the original Broadway production of Camelot.  Duquette was the first American to exhibit a one-man show at the Louvre in Paris.  

Tony Duquette is a lavishly illustrated book with many lost and never-before published photographs from the Duquette archives, including portraits and pictures taken by Man Ray, John Engstead, Fredrich Dapriche, Andre Ostier, George Platt Lynnes, as well as original sketches, designs, and texts by Duquette himself. With commentary, interviews, stories, and contributions from Liza Minnelli, Arlene Dahl, Steven Meisel, Bruce Weber, and others.

Artists To Check Out: Dillon Marsh - Invasive Species

Photographer Dillon Marsh Invasive Species image series follows the South African movement of disquising cell phone towers as living trees.  In 1996, apparently over night, a palm tree appeared in Cape Town.  Marsh has followed the the tower trees ever since.  Check him out.

Art: The Genius Of Roy Lichtenstein

A leader of the pop art movement, Roy Lichtenstein (1923-1997) made a huge impression on the art world beginning in 1960's.  His work defined the basic premise of the pop art movement better than any other, that of parody.  His large graphic compositions inspired by comic strips have been labeled "American" as well as "industrial" and "pop".  Although tongue in cheek, his work is still relevant and still influences today's pop culture. 

Art Exhibit: Scrapbook Inspires Art

For my grandmother's 87th birthday, my mother gave our family copies of my grandmother's scrapbook.  I've enjoyed having this so much that after some thought decided to use the scrapbook as the inspiration for a collection of works titled Quilt.  The mixed media paintings and drawings are on exhibit now through October in Lake Village, Arkansas at the Guachoya Art Center.
