Simple DIY Furniture Makeover: Stencil Flowers

This girl's room is adorable. The hand painted flowers over the headboard are so cute.  If you are not filling that crafty, here is a simple DIY stencil idea used on the nightstand.  Now, I have to say I liked the nightstand before better, because I'm partial to yellow, but the yellow nightstand definitely would have worked in this girl's room.  So simple, after base coat, make flower designs using simple store bought stencils and paint markers.  For a step by step, swing over to Thistle Wood Farms.

Art Exhibit: Scrapbook Inspires Art

For my grandmother's 87th birthday, my mother gave our family copies of my grandmother's scrapbook.  I've enjoyed having this so much that after some thought decided to use the scrapbook as the inspiration for a collection of works titled Quilt.  The mixed media paintings and drawings are on exhibit now through October in Lake Village, Arkansas at the Guachoya Art Center

Happy Little Clouds - Bob Ross Gets Remixed

Bob Ross gets remixed by Symphony of Science's John D. Boswell for PBS Digital Studios.  I loved The Joy of Painting when I was little.  This is the second in a series of PBS icons remixed.  Mr. Rogers also got the remix treatment.  You Rock Bob Ross!  Happy Little Trees!  Happy Little Clouds!  Yes.

Four Different And Simple DIY Ideas

Here are four DIY ideas I found on Pinterest that caught my attention.  They are random yet handy and very simple.  Visit our Pinterest page to find more DIY ideas and creative inspiration.

For an easy nautical theme - coil ropes in glass vases.

Restyle that tired piece of furniture - paint and distress in a fun
contemporary color.  I swoon over this shade of turquoise.

Make Painting Easier - simple paint kit made from a gallon jug.
Now why didn't we think of that?

Family Portrait - This simple and creative idea is perfect for a family portrait.

Note: The use of the colored frame, neutral tone clothing, and the solid background - this draws the viewer's eye to each person's face.  The pairing down is important and makes this composition work.

happy crafting.

Art: Cardboard Apartments

German artist EVOL creates detailed urban architectural scenes out of found material. The works of art are created using spray paint and stencils on sheets of recycled cardboard.  Simply amazing.

Picking Paint Color

Picking a new paint color for a room can be hard for some.  Giving this decision some thought and planning can save you the heart ache of deciding later you are unhappy with a color choice.  Here are some interior design tips on picking just the right color for your room.

Consider Light
When choosing paint color - consider which direction the room is facing.  Where is your light coming from?  A south facing room will get sun all day while a north facing room will commonly be darker. Your east and west facing rooms will receive either the morning or evening sun.

Function
Secondly - how will the room be used?  Will you use this room in the morning or night?  Will you work in this room or relax?

For example a south facing room you want to relax in during the day will require a cooler shade like soft blue to offset the amount of sunlight.  While a room you want to relax in at night would need a warmer deeper shade like dark gray or brown.

Remember Composition
Take into consideration what colors are in this room.  The color of the furniture, rugs, and fabrics will play a part in how the color looks in a room.

Test Drive
Finally test your color out with painting swatches on the wall and leaving it for a couple of days.  View it at different times of the day and see how you respond to it.
