When choosing paint color - consider which direction the room is facing. Where is your light coming from? A south facing room will get sun all day while a north facing room will commonly be darker. Your east and west facing rooms will receive either the morning or evening sun.

Secondly - how will the room be used? Will you use this room in the morning or night? Will you work in this room or relax?
For example a south facing room you want to relax in during the day will require a cooler shade like soft blue to offset the amount of sunlight. While a room you want to relax in at night would need a warmer deeper shade like dark gray or brown.
Take into consideration what colors are in this room. The color of the furniture, rugs, and fabrics will play a part in how the color looks in a room.
Finally test your color out with painting swatches on the wall and leaving it for a couple of days. View it at different times of the day and see how you respond to it.
