Decorating Tip: Use the word 'eclectic' sparingly. Too often, the term "eclectic" is used to describe decorating style or taste. When overused the adjective can be vague. To classify something as "eclectic" it must contrast and/or span the spectrum of something consistently (this includes style). For example: mix antique and mid-century periods, combine European furniture with Middle Eastern pieces, use Early American furniture and African artifacts, contrast patterns, use multiple colors, contrast textures, display both old world and modern art side by side.
