Frida Kahlo (1907-1954) the Mexican painter known for her self portraits suffered life long health problems stemming from a trolly accident early in her life. She painted many paintings from her bed using a special easel. Her life story is as interesting as the sum of her work. Of her 143 paintings, 55 are self-portraits which often incorporate symbolic portrayals of physical and psychological wounds. She insisted, "I never painted dreams. I painted my own reality."
