Composer & lyricist Stephen Sondheim (West Side Story, Gypsy, Into the Woods) is one of the best known composers in Broadway history. His music is also known for its difficulty ... it is very difficult.
In a wonderful behind the scenes moment, Beth Howland (Vera from Alice) labors over the recording of her song for the original Broadway cast recording of Company. It is a wonderful treat seeing this process and you can witness the fear in Howland's eyes as she sings this song. Stephen Sondheim and Harold Prince (director) both are very hard on Howland - but they receive results. The best performance of this song to date - here is Beth Howland with Steve Elmore, Teri Ralston and cast singing "Getting Married Today" from the original Broadway cast of - one of my favorite musicals - Sondheim's Company, 1970.
