It has been 50 years since Jackie Kennedy gave America a tour of the White House. CBS originally aired the documentary on February 14th, 1962. It aired again on ABC a few days later.
Jackie was instrumental in bringing history back into the White House. The previous residents (Eisenhower) had, in Jackie's eyes, turned the White House into a cheap motel - lacking any character or history.
Stations were reluctant to air the documentary - however it garnered high ratings and America fell in love with not only the White House but with Jackie Kennedy.
